CPR, AED and Basic First Aid


The goal of this course is to teach students critical skills to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and to provide Basic First Aid intervention in a safe, timely and efficient manner. Students will learn CPR for adults, children, and infants.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the importance of CPR and its impact on survival
  • Recognize symptoms of sudden cardiac arrest and understand the steps of the Chain of Survival
  • Describe the steps to perform ventilation by using barrier device
  • Describe the steps to perform adult, child and infant CPR
  • Understand the use of AED in timely and safe manner
  • Understand the contents of First Aid Kit
  • Assess and provide first aid treatment to victims with bleeding, wounds, shock and burns
  • Assess and provide first aid treatment to victims with life-threatening poisoning or choking emergency
  • Assess and provide first aid to victims with exposure to extreme temperatures
  • Assess and provide first aid to victims with musculoskeletal as well as eye injuries
  • Assess and provide first aid to victims with bites and stings from insects; includes instruction in first aid treatment of anaphylactic shock.
