The goal of this course is to prepare students to recognize the risks associated with exposure to blood and other potential infectious materials as well as identify standard actions in case of post-accidental exposure.
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Define bloodborne pathogen
- Describe the chain of infection of bloodborne diseases
- Describe four ways exposure to bloodborne pathogens commonly occurs.
- Identify the key components of the Exposure Control Plan
- Understand the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to limit the spread of bloodborne pathogens
- Identify strategies to prevent occupational exposures to bloodborne pathogens
- Undestand post-accidental exposure protocol according to OSHA requirements
